AI image prompt generator: three examples

Three inputs and the image prompt a free run gave each, made once on September 28, 2026 with GPT-6 Luna and shown as it came back. The example buttons in the box above show the same.

A cozy scene

a cozy bookstore café on a rainy evening

A cozy bookstore café filled with wooden shelves of books, small café tables, steaming cups, and a welcoming counter, set beside rain-streaked windows on a rainy evening. Illustrate it in a warm, detailed storybook style, with golden pendant lights glowing against cool blue-gray rain outside, rich amber wood and soft cream tones. Frame the inviting interior from a wide, eye-level viewpoint, balancing the snug seating with the window view; create a calm, intimate, gently nostalgic mood.

Avoid: blur, clutter, harsh lighting, distorted shelves, unreadable text, people with extra fingers.
A product photo

product photo of a steel water bottle with a bamboo cap for an online store

A single stainless steel water bottle with a natural bamboo cap, shown clearly as a polished online-store product photo against a clean, seamless white studio background. Minimalist commercial product photography with realistic brushed-steel texture and visible bamboo grain, softly diffused studio lighting with gentle highlights and a subtle contact shadow, neutral silver and warm wood colours, centered upright bottle in a square composition, eye-level camera and crisp focus, calm, premium, practical mood.

Avoid: blur, reflections obscuring the bottle, scratches, dents, extra objects, clutter, labels, logos, text, watermark, distorted shape.
A festival portrait

a family lighting diyas on a rooftop in Jaipur on Diwali night

A family gathered closely together, lighting small glowing diyas by hand on a Jaipur rooftop during Diwali night, with traditional rooftop details and the city’s distant buildings visible beneath the evening sky. Digital illustration with clear, expressive details and a warm festive atmosphere. Soft golden light from the diyas illuminates the family’s faces, balanced by deep blue night tones and subtle jewel-coloured accents. Portrait orientation, taller than wide; eye-level medium-wide composition that captures both the family and rooftop setting. Mood: intimate, joyful, and celebratory.

Avoid: blur, extra fingers, distorted faces, clutter, unreadable text, watermarks

Which AI model is best at this? We tested every one

Side by side: a jazz poster with its words on it

The same input on GPT-6 Luna and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, as each answered it, unedited.

Turn this idea into a detailed prompt for an AI image generator: subject, setting, style, lighting, camera and mood, then an "Avoid:" line. Make the style a digital illustration.

a poster for a jazz night called Blue Hour, Friday 14 November, 8 pm, at The Lantern
GPT-6 Luna
A promotional poster for a jazz night titled “Blue Hour,” with the event details “Friday 14 November, 8 pm” and “at The Lantern” clearly readable and spelled exactly. Set the scene in an intimate jazz club with a saxophone and softly suggested stage lights, rendered as a polished digital illustration. Use moody blue and indigo tones with warm amber accents, dramatic low lighting, and a balanced portrait composition with bold, legible typography. Evoke a cool, soulful, late-night mood.

Avoid: blurry details, misspelled or extra text, clutter, distorted instruments, illegible typography.
DeepSeek V4.1 Flash
A vertical jazz-night poster with elegant lettering reading Blue Hour, Friday 14 November, 8 pm, at The Lantern, centred on a silhouetted saxophonist beneath an art-deco streetlamp, swirling smoke, and tiny musical notes, set against a moody midnight-blue cityscape, rendered as a polished digital illustration with subtle grain. Soft cyan and amber club lighting, deep indigo shadows, warm gold accents; symmetrical composition with bold negative space, slightly low angle. Elegant, intimate, nocturnal mood.
Avoid: blur, extra fingers, clutter, warped proportions, misspelled or garbled text, watermark, harsh daylight, low contrast.

How the inputs are scored

  • Key facts: the answer must state each fact the input turns on (a number, a name, a date or a condition), as the input gives it; how it's worded isn't judged.
  • Rubric (graded): the grader model scores it from 1 to 5 on each published criterion; it passes with an average of 4 or more and no criterion under 3.

The inputs: a surfing dog at sunrise, a square product photo of a mug, a watercolour of a snowy park, portrait, a jazz poster with its words on it, and a busy scene with nothing left out. Every model gets the tool's own instructions and up to Pro's reply limit. The method is the same as our other test runs.

How to use the AI image prompt generator

  1. Write your idea in a few words, or a sentence: what, where, and the feeling. Up to 800 characters.

  2. Pick a style and the shape of the picture.

  3. Press “Write the prompt”. Without an account you see its start (1 free run a day, no account needed).

  4. Copy the prompt into your image generator. Signed in on a paid plan, make the image in llmwise.

Tips for a better answer

  • Say where it'll be used

Say what the picture is for (a blog header, a product listing, a phone wallpaper) and the prompt picks a composition that fits.

  • Change one thing at a time

Generate once, then change one thing at a time: the light, the lens, the time of day. You'll learn what each part of the prompt does.

  • Name the mood

A reference to a mood (“quiet, early morning”) steers colour and light better than a list of colours.

  • Don't mention what you don't want

Image models draw what you mention. Leave out what you don't want in the picture, and put it on the Avoid line instead.

What a good image prompt looks like

  • The subject, first and specific

The subject comes first and is specific: “a steel water bottle with a bamboo cap” rather than “a bottle”. Image models weigh the start of a prompt most.

  • Light and camera, named

Light and camera make a picture look intentional: “soft window light from the left, 50 mm lens, shallow depth of field” does more than “beautiful”.

  • Nothing of your idea lost

Everything in your idea should still be there. A generator that swaps your rooftop for a beach, or your family for one person, isn't describing your picture.

  • Short text, in quotes

Most image models can't spell reliably. If the picture needs words on it, keep them short and put them in quotes in the prompt.

What's free, and what signing up adds

  • Without an account: 1 free run a day, on GPT-6 Luna, shared with the free message on our home page. It takes up to 800 characters, writes up to about 600 tokens (roughly 450 words), and shows you the start of the image prompt.

  • Signing up is free, with an email link and no card. The image prompt you ran comes with you as your first chat, and you get 5 free messages on almost every model (all but Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5, and GPT-6 Astra).

  • Signed in, the tool runs on the model you pick, on your plan, shows the whole answer, and you can carry on in the chat with any model, or ask another model the same thing.

More free tools are on the tools page, and what each plan gives is on pricing.

Questions

Is the image prompt generator free?

Yes. Without an account you get 1 run a day on GPT-6 Luna, shared with the free message on our home page: you see the start of the prompt, and the rest when you sign up. Signing up is free and adds 5 free messages on almost every model in llmwise (all but Claude Fable 5.1, Claude Opus 5.5, and GPT-6 Astra), with no card.

Does it make the image too?

No, it writes the prompt. Paste it into any image generator. In llmwise, image models such as Nano Banana and GPT Image are on paid plans, and each image's price is shown before you make it.

Which image generators does the prompt work in?

Yes. The prompt is plain text that works in Nano Banana, GPT Image, Midjourney, FLUX and the rest; the shape you pick is written into it, and the “Avoid” line is for models that take a negative prompt.

How do I get text to appear in the image?

Keep the words short, put them in quotes, and say where they go (“the sign above the door reads “OPEN””). Even then, check the spelling in the image.

Can I use it for a picture of a real person?

Describe the person's clothes, pose and setting instead of naming a real person: many image models refuse real people, and a description gets you a better picture anyway.
